Per quest'ultima cosa, sono d'accordissimo. Anzi, io uso ancora il Grande Anello (Planescape 2a ed), ma anche la Grande Ruota dovrebbe essere Ok, se non addirittura meglio.

Everybody's got a home plane, and it's not necessarily the place they haunt now. A prime living in Sigil still calls the Prime Material Plane his home plane. It's not where a being lives that matters; it's where he was born, hatched, or sprouted. Home planes matter because a lot of spells work only on creatures either inside or outside their home planes.
The spells most affected by a being's home plane are abjurations and summonings.
Most abjurations protect against creatures from another plane, and a few (like holy word) can drive a creature back to its home plane. In either case, an abjuration can't affect a creature on its home plane. For example, some primes might try to use protection from evil to protect themselves from efreet while they're in the City of Brass. They figure the spell works at home, so it should work on the plane of Fire, too, but it doesn't. The City of Brass is on the efreet's home plane, so the genies aren't an extraplanar there and the protection spell won't work. If anybody was summoned, it was the fool prime.
The home plane has the reverse effect on summoning spells. Specifically, unless it's a spell that summons creatures from another plane (such as conjure elemental or gate), a summoning's got to draw on something close at hand. A monster summoning I can only summon up monsters from the same plane. For instance, casting a monster summoning won't cause a succubus to appear on Ysgard; it's not the fiend's home plane, and not even a plane where it can normally be found."
Errata: IMHO penso sia necessario anche guardare da dove provengono le creature evocate: se devono venire dallo stesso piano (tipo evocare animali) allora non è possibile se non ci sono sul piano attuale, mentre se ci si rivolge ad un altro piano è sempre possibile tranne che su quello stesso piano (es: è possibile evocare un demone sia sul Primo Piano che su Monte celestia, ma non nell'Abisso, suo piano di provenienza)
1)Per le evocazioni di elementali, funziona così: nei Piani Interni (fuoco, acqua e c.)non si possono evocare creature dell'elemento opposto, che comunque morirebbero subitaneamente. Nei piani esterni, che non sono direttamente collegati coi piani elementali, l'elemento in questione viene sostituito dallo stesso tipo di elemento presente nel piano su cui sì è al momento(es: un Elementale del Fuoco fatto col fuoco dei Nove Inferni). Sta al master decidere se l'elemento è presente in quantità sufficiente (acuqa nel livello desertico di Arborea? non penso proprio.). Inoltre, l'elementale così evocato prende l'allineamento del piano in questione.
PS: capisco che si parla del manuale nuovo della 3a, comunque per queste cose (e anche per l'altro thread sul piano astrale) c'è il forum "Multiverso".
